AsiaRes

This is the webpage of AsiaRes, a platform for East Asian studies in the Baltic states and for those all over the world who are interested in what we do. The centre is located at the University of Latvia in Riga. You are welcome to learn more about us.

The name AsiaRes echoes a destination, Asia, and “Res” stands for “research”. It also alludes to the latin in medias res — “beginning in the middle of a storyline” — and reflects a dominant factor in studies of culture: The investigator always enters an ongoing story from the outside. To understand, he must strive to retell this story from a certain point that he defines as its beginning.
