Wolfgang Kubin on Chinese literature (video)

Last autumn the german sinologist and translator of Chinese literature, contemporary and classic, professor Wolfgang Kubin, gave an interview in the english speaking channel of CNTV. Kubin is among the most popular Western literary critics in China precisely for his provocative and serious manner in frankly pointing out the more unflattering aspects of China's "breathtaking progress" in the domain of literature and culture in general. The interview was termed "scandalous" by some voices as were many of Kubin's public lectures and writte statements. However it is worth to study the way how Kubin, merciless attacking commercialism in Chinese literary scene, breaks down his interlocutor's smart social (and political) conformity to let appear a few questions of striking relevance for literature as well as for the sense of human life in all modern societies.
