Regions in East Asia

Since our approach is based on culture and language, political questions play subordinate role. Thus, in our short introductions, we concede space primarily to regions defined by the distictiveness of their respective cultures. This approach also determines the cultural-geographical outlines of the regions on the map below. The obvious fact that on this map a cultural region seldomly coincides with the political borders of a state reflects our current interests as independent scholars, not a political bias.
